Area committee considers revision of swimming pool screening policy

(Update 12/9/2021) The Scarsdale District Appeals Committee reviewed the revised requirements for the fence and screening around the swimming pool at its working meeting on December 8, 2021.

According to village planner Greg Cutler, “The review of the swimming pool policy statement was due to the chairman’s concern that more than two decades have passed since any changes were made. The proposed changes are intended to make the policy statement consistent with the board’s practice. It involves screening issues, and the suggested language is intended to clarify existing practices that require continuous evergreen screening to a height of 5 feet. Another minor change is that the board believes that it is no longer necessary to screen pool equipment from within the plot." We also Ask Cutler, “This month’s agenda includes the construction of 15 more pools-some areas that have been flooded this year. Has anyone considered the overall impact of all these pools on flooding? What are your thoughts? He said, “Anything is regulating All ponds built in the floodplain must obtain a floodplain development permit and be constructed in accordance with our floodplain development law. However, these types of permit applications are limited. Extensive flooding occurred this year-in many cases, it occurred outside the controlled floodplain. Most pool applications are not in the FEMA Special Flood Hazard Zone, but “only need to obtain rainwater permits to manage rainwater. Rainwater permits are reviewed by the village engineering department.”
