Olivia Harrison, widow of Beatle George Harrison and a philanthropist and film producer, has a few words of her own to share. She has compiled 20 original poems about her husband for the book “Came the Lightening,” which comes out June 21. “Came the Lightening” also will include photographs and images of mementos and will have an introduction by Martin Scorsese, who directed a 2011 documentary about George Harrison. Olivia Arias met George Harrison in the mid-1970s while she worked in the  marketing department of A&M Records. They married in 1978, a month after the birth of their son, Dhani.

Asian shares are mixed in choppy trading, as inflation worries and the war in Ukraine had investors partly optimistic while staying cautious. Benchmarks rose in Japan, South Korea and Australia, boosted by the overnight rally in Europe and in the Dow. Chinese President Xi Jinping told a forum of Asian leaders his government supports talks to resolve international disputes, but opposes the use of sanctions. Xi’s comments were China’s latest attempt to describe an approach to Russia’s bloody invasion of Ukraine. Stock indexes ended mixed on Wall Street, while Netflix lost more than a third of its value after reporting its first subscriber loss in more than a decade.

A Russian news outlet says China's credit card processor has refused to work with banks in Russia for fear of being targeted by sanctions over its attack on Ukraine. That cuts off a possible alternative after Visa and Mastercard stopped serving them. RBC reported UnionPay’s decision affects Sberbank, Russia’s biggest commercial bank, and smaller institutions. RBC cited five unidentified sources working in large Russian banks. Mastercard and Visa suspended operations in Russia after the United States and other governments imposed trade and financial sanctions on President Vladimir Putin’s government for its attack on Ukraine. Beijing has criticized sanctions on Moscow, but Chinese companies and banks appear to be complying with trade and financial restrictions.

Thousands of people taken captive by the Islamic State group remain missing years after the extremists' territorial defeat. Accountability for their captors remains elusive. Families of the missing feel abandoned by a world that has largely moved on, while they struggle to uncover the fate of their loved ones. Amer Matar's brother, who disappeared in 2013 in Syria, is one of the missing. While trying to uncover his brother's fate, Matar has dedicated his life to documenting crimes committed by IS in his country.

Like most any boy growing up in Mobile, Walker Hayes’ early goal in his sporting career was obvious. Star at Alabama and then be drafted into the NFL. While it hasn’t quite worked out that way for the country music singer/songwriter, he’s found the No. 1 overall draft pick of his profession. Hayes, who will appear in concert in Las Vegas on Saturday night, five days before the draft kicks off in town, had the megahit of 2021 with “Fancy Like.” The song not only crushed it on the charts and through every music medium, it also launched a dance craze thanks to a TikTok he and daughter Lela concocted. Hayes’ mention of Applebee’s restaurant in the lyrics basically made his song part of the menu.

Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin enjoyed the biggest moment of his career inside T-Mobile Arena in 2018, when he skated the Stanley Cup around the rink after defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in the Final. On Wednesday night he enjoyed another milestone. With two goals during a 4-3 overtime loss to the Knights, it marked the ninth time in Ovechkin’s career he scored 50 goals, tying Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky for most in NHL history.

Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera needs one more hit for 3,000 in his career, and will try to reach the mark at Comerica Park. Cabrera added three more hits to his total Wednesday night in a 5-3 loss to the Yankees. With fans standing and cheering while hoping to see history, he struck out in his final at-bat. Cabrera is on deck to become the 33rd major leaguer with 3,000 hits, and the first player from Venezuela to achieve the feat. The 39-year-old Cabrera gets his next chance when Yankees lefty Jordan Montgomery faces Detroit in an afternoon matchup.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is in Japan as part of her first trip abroad in more than two years as her government seeks to promote the country’s reopening for business and tourism following a pandemic-related border closure, while Japan wants to focus on mutual security concerns, including China’s new alliance with the Solomon Islands. Ardern arrived in Japan late Wednesday after her three-day visit in Singapore, where her talks with leaders focused on the economy and led to an agreement on bilateral cooperation on climate change and adopting low-carbon and green technologies.

The Phoenix Suns visit the New Orleans Pelicans for game three of the Western Conference first round with the series tied 1-1. The teams meet for the seventh time this season. New Orleans is 25-27 against the Western Conference, and Phoenix is 39-13 against conference opponents.

The Miami Heat visit the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference first round with a 2-0 lead in the series. The teams meet for the seventh time this season. Atlanta is 9-7 against the Southeast Division, and Miami is 13-3 against division opponents.

The Chicago Bulls host the Milwaukee Bucks in game three of the Eastern Conference first round with the series tied 1-1. The teams meet for the eighth time this season. Chicago is 10-6 against the Central Division, and Milwaukee is 12-4 against division opponents.

Relentless Russian attacks are pounding the last Ukrainian stronghold in the besieged city of Mariupol. A fighter apparently on the inside pleaded for help, saying the defenders “may have only a few days or hours left.” The Kremlin said it submitted a draft of its demands for ending the war, and the West raced to supply Ukraine with heavier weapons to counter the Russians’ new drive to seize the industrial east. Britain’s Defense Ministry says Russia likely wants to show significant successes before its May 9 Victory Day celebrations. Western nations were trying to match the military supplies they send to Kyiv to the needs of fighting in the east — likely to involve trench warfare, long-range artillery attacks and tank battles across relatively open terrain.

Myanmar officials say the military-led government will exempt approved foreign investors, embassies, United Nations agencies and non-government organizations from its rules requiring conversion of foreign exchange into the local currency. Aung Naing Oo, the army-installed government's minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, said details of the central bank's new rule were being worked out. But he said foreign companies and others qualifying would get automatic exemptions. The Bank of Myanmar's announcement that foreign currency bank holdings must be converted to kyats within one day raised protests from foreign governments and business organizations. Aung Naing Oo told foreign reporters in an online briefing foreign investors would have “no additional burdens."

Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton’s status for the rest of his team’s first-round playoff series with the Chicago Bulls is uncertain after the three-time All-Star left Wednesday’s Game 2 with a knee injury. Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said after Milwaukee’s 114-110 loss that Middleton has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Budenholzer said Middleton will undergo an MRI on Thursday. The best-of-7 series is tied 1-all heading into Friday’s Game 3 in Chicago.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Shea Theodore scored 2:09 into overtime to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.

Winds that are expected to intensify through the end of the week have been a major obstacle for firefighters battling blazes across the Southwest. Resources are tight, and fire managers are scrambling to get crews on board. Hundreds of residents have been evacuated because of multiple wildfires. One of the largest outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, more than tripled in size Wednesday. Firefighters haven't been able to get ahead of it because of erratic winds that have grounded air resources. One incident commander on a fire south of Prescott, Arizona, says conditions are some of the worst he's seen in nearly five decades of firefighting.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping says his government supports talks to resolve international disputes, but opposes the use of sanctions. Xi's comments in a televised address to an international forum in the southern island province of Hainan mark China's latest attempt to describe an approach to Russia's bloody invasion of Ukraine. Beijing has backed Moscow, refusing to call the conflict an invasion and saying Russia was provoked by NATO's expansion. Despite that, the official Xinhua News Agency quoted Xi as saying that China remains “committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, uphold non-interference in internal affairs, and respect the independent choices of development paths and social systems made by people in different countries."

MILWAUKEE — DeMar DeRozan is a man of his word. He proved that to Chicago Bulls fans Wednesday night, devouring the Milwaukee Bucks defense in the second half to cement a 114-110 win that evened the first-round playoff series at a game apiece.

Logan Gilbert pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Adam Frazier doubled twice on a three-hit night to lead the COVID-hit Seattle Mariners over Texas 4-2 and send the Rangers to their worst start since 1987. Seattle was missing manager Scott Servais, third-base coach Manny Acta and assistant coach Andy Bissell along with right fielder Mitch Haniger, catcher Luis Torrens and reliever Paul Sewald due to positive COVID-19 tests. First base coach Kristopher Negrón served as acting manager. The Rangers, who turned a triple play in the first, are off to a 2-9 start that is their worst since 1987.

In the superstitious world of baseball, where streaks can be snapped by wearing the wrong socks, where no-hitters can be jinxed by merely mentioning them and everything seems to be a an omen, the first inning of Kristopher Negron’s first game as interim manager of the Mariners didn’t portend…

Alex DeBrincat scored his 40th goal of the season with 37 seconds left in overtime, giving the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. Jake McCabe, Dominik Kubalik and Alex Vlasic also scored for the Blackhawks, who won for the second time in 12 games after squandering a 3-1 lead in the final 10:18 of regulation. Barrett Hayton, Nate Smith and Anton Stralman scored for the Coyotes, who have lost eight in a row and 15 of 17.

Shea Theodore scored in overtime to lift the Vegas Golden Knights past the Washington Capitals 4-3 on Wednesday night. Theodore dangled his way through two defenders and deked his way to a backhand winner past Washington goaltender Ilya Samsonov, and in the process keeping their slim playoff hopes alive. Vegas has 89 points and is two back of Dallas for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference, and trails Los Angeles by three in the Pacific Division.

All the improved Kraken results the past six weeks had come with the important caveat that a majority of opponents hadn’t exactly been top-shelf quality.

Kole Lind, Jordan Eberle and Yanni Gourde all scored in the first period and the Seattle Kraken held on to beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2. Philipp Grubauer had 25 saves as Seattle won its third straight. Matty Beniers had an assist to become the first rookie this season to begin his NHL career with a point in each of his first four games. Cale Makar and Artturi Lehkonen scored for the Avalanche, and Pavel Francouz finished with 26 saves. Colorado, assured of having the top seed in the Western Conference, has lost two straight after winning nine in a row. The Avalanche remained tied with Florida with 116 points for the Presidents’ Trophy for the league’s best record.
